6 Tips to Help You Achieve Your Goals this Year

By |January 8th, 2020|Blog|0 Comments

Now that the holiday season is over, it’s time to get back to our regularly scheduled lives. For many of us, the New Year brings with it expectations and hopes for the improvement of ourselves and our lives. Whether or not you make New Year’s resolutions, you’ve likely set goals at some point in your life. One thing I help many of my clients with is setting achievable goals and making those goals become a reality. Here are 6 tips to help you achieve your goals this year.

Determine What You Really Want

The very first step in achieving your goals is to set one that you actually want to accomplish. I know this sounds obvious, but I’ve consulted many people who have set goals and once we start discussing further, they realize they don’t really care if they their goal is achieved or not. Make sure your goal aligns with your […]

Voxer: The App Everyone Should Have

By |December 4th, 2019|Blog|0 Comments

So, I’m sure you are all curious as to what app I think everyone should have. You may be wondering if you already have this app, or if you’ve even heard of it. First of all, I am not an affiliate with this particular app and am not getting a referral fee or commission for this post. I just truly love this app and it has helped change my life for the better ever since I’ve been using it. So without further ado, the app I totally think every person should have is called Voxer.

Voxer is a free app available on iOS and Android devices that allows you to leave up to a 15-minute voice message (as well as pictures and videos) to a person or group of people at any time, and those people can listen and respond when it’s convenient for them.

You may be thinking, “But Dawn, why […]

How a Professional Organizer Does Meal Planning

By |November 5th, 2019|Blog|2 Comments

OK, so I’m being honest here… my least favorite chore has always been planning and preparing dinner for my family each night.  We are a family of four; my husband, two boys aged 5 and 9, and myself. I don’t particularly love cooking, mainly because I feel rushed to get something edible on the table after I get home from picking up the kids and work. My goal is simple; to provide a decent meal that my whole family will enjoy before we head upstairs to do our nightly bedtime routine. Since I began my organizing business, I have used myself and my family as guinea pigs to try new systems to make our lives run smoother that I can eventually share with clients. I love the challenge of taking a problem or repetitive task and simplifying it into something that can run on auto-pilot.  Meal planning was a system […]

5 Thing You May Be Doing To Sabotage Your Organization

By |October 8th, 2019|Blog|0 Comments

Many of my clients tell me they have tried to get organized and just can’t do it. They are smart, capable people, so why haven’t they succeeded? Many times we thwart our own best efforts, but if we make small adjustments in our processes it can lead to huge strides in living an organized life. Below my close friend and fellow Professional Organizer Kirsten Fisher shares some of the top things her clients tend to do to sabotage themselves. See if you can relate…

1. Shop First. Buying cute containers may help motivate us into getting organized but it won’t create the right system. Taking your things and throwing them in a pretty bin is not organization. It won’t last once you start to use it. What should be your first step?

Sort. The first step is always sort. Determine what you have by category. Completely empty the space to put all […]

How to Opt-Out of Mail, E-Mail & Phone Calls

By |September 10th, 2019|Blog|1 Comment

One of the easiest ways to stay organized is to limit the amount of things coming into your life. The less stuff you have in the form of belongings and information, the less you have to organize. In my fifteen years of being a professional organizer, I have helped countless individuals sift through their piles of papers and overflowing email inboxes to find what seems to be an overwhelming amount of junk. In addition, so many people I know receive multiple telemarketer calls each day. All of these unwanted communications become distractions and noise in our already busy lives. In this blog post, I’ve created a checklist for you to follow in order to opt yourself out of unwanted mail, e-mail and phone calls. In addition, I’ve included a few other things you need to know to keep unwanted info from coming into your life. Hopefully, after accomplishing the tasks […]

Imagine that it’s a Saturday morning and you are finally ready to organize your garage. You’ve put the task off for way too long, and today is the day you’ve decided to get it done once and for all. As you open the garage door and are staring at the cluttered contents before you, you feel overwhelmed and discouraged because you have no idea where to start. In this blog, I am going to outline a five-step process called S.P.A.C.E. to help guide your organizing.

As a Professional Organizer people tell me all the time that they are overwhelmed with their clutter and have no idea where or how to start organizing. I am going to share with you the simple process I have used for years to organize just about any space.

When I was just starting as a professional organizer over 15 years ago […]

9 Packing Tips for an Organized Summer Vacation

By |July 10th, 2019|Blog|0 Comments

It’s summertime! Summer often means fun-filled trips to the beach, road trips, summer camp, and family vacations. But with travel comes the need to prepare for traveling.  Packing can be especially stressful when you aren’t organized. Set yourself up for a successful summer vacation even before it starts. Save more of your energy for the trip itself by using these 9 super simple tips to create your packing process.

  1. Use a Packing Checklist

For as long as I can remember I have used a packing checklist to help me prepare for every trip I’ve been on.  This checklist continually gets updated as my needs and the needs of my family change. I usually print this checklist out about a week before I head out so I can slowly gather everything that is needed. You can download the packing checklist I use by clicking here or you could try using […]

Home Organizing: Summer is the Best Time for Organizing School Papers

By |June 12th, 2019|Blog|1 Comment

Your children are free (or almost free) for summer break! Although school is over, the mountain of school-related papers in your home remains.  As the beach beckons, do you wish there was an easy way to calm this chaos once and for all? Do you fear the next school year will be much of the same with an overabundance of artwork that gets damaged and overtakes your counters?

If this resonates with you, you are not alone! As a mom and Professional Organizer, I understand the struggle to keep up with art masterpieces and school papers that seem to multiply overnight. With so many other daily to-dos facing your family, it’s tough to manage all that is coming in. The good news is that the start of the summer is the best time to set up a system that will set you and your children up for success next year.

In this […]

Organizing your Life with Evernote

The Problem

You have a stack of papers that’s been sitting on your desk for weeks, you know you need to keep it all but you aren’t sure what to do with it. If you file it away you feel like you will never see it again and you aren’t even sure what file it would go in anyway! Does this sound familiar?

Or how about this one… Your e-mail inbox is filled with e-mails you might need to refer to in the future. You’ve deleted what you can but the rest could be useful at some point, however it’s nearly impossible to weed through it all to find what you need.

We have all dealt with situations similar to these and oftentimes feel that ideas and information becomes lost simply because we don’t have a reliable system to capture it. Well, the good news is there is a solution and it’s an […]
