But my 17 years of work with clients is proof that it’s worth making that initial phone call! So today I’m sharing what I’ve seen and heard from clients to show you why it’s a good idea to hire a professional organizer.

How To Make Going Paperless Easy

By |July 7th, 2020|Blog|0 Comments

In my 16 years as a professional organizer, the most common complaint I hear is about paper clutter. Most people have a hard time keeping up with the credit card statements, bills, receipts, and various other papers they receive on a daily basis. Paper has a weird way of multiplying overnight, kind of like Gremlins. When you feel overwhelmed it’s hard to catch up. The great news is that going paperless is a fantastic solution to managing paper clutter. It’s not that hard to do once you know how to go about it. With some planning and scanning, you can reclaim storage space and have everything you need right at your fingertips.

Benefits of going paperless

You’ve heard some of the most obvious reasons for going paperless for years. It’s better for the environment and also saves money by not having to print and mail statements or other documents. The benefits don’t […]

6 Tips to Help You Achieve Your Goals this Year

By |January 8th, 2020|Blog|0 Comments

Now that the holiday season is over, it’s time to get back to our regularly scheduled lives. For many of us, the New Year brings with it expectations and hopes for the improvement of ourselves and our lives. Whether or not you make New Year’s resolutions, you’ve likely set goals at some point in your life. One thing I help many of my clients with is setting achievable goals and making those goals become a reality. Here are 6 tips to help you achieve your goals this year.

Determine What You Really Want

The very first step in achieving your goals is to set one that you actually want to accomplish. I know this sounds obvious, but I’ve consulted many people who have set goals and once we start discussing further, they realize they don’t really care if they their goal is achieved or not. Make sure your goal aligns with your […]

Voxer: The App Everyone Should Have

By |December 4th, 2019|Blog|0 Comments

So, I’m sure you are all curious as to what app I think everyone should have. You may be wondering if you already have this app, or if you’ve even heard of it. First of all, I am not an affiliate with this particular app and am not getting a referral fee or commission for this post. I just truly love this app and it has helped change my life for the better ever since I’ve been using it. So without further ado, the app I totally think every person should have is called Voxer.

Voxer is a free app available on iOS and Android devices that allows you to leave up to a 15-minute voice message (as well as pictures and videos) to a person or group of people at any time, and those people can listen and respond when it’s convenient for them.

You may be thinking, “But Dawn, why […]

How a Professional Organizer Does Meal Planning

By |November 5th, 2019|Blog|2 Comments

OK, so I’m being honest here… my least favorite chore has always been planning and preparing dinner for my family each night.  We are a family of four; my husband, two boys aged 5 and 9, and myself. I don’t particularly love cooking, mainly because I feel rushed to get something edible on the table after I get home from picking up the kids and work. My goal is simple; to provide a decent meal that my whole family will enjoy before we head upstairs to do our nightly bedtime routine. Since I began my organizing business, I have used myself and my family as guinea pigs to try new systems to make our lives run smoother that I can eventually share with clients. I love the challenge of taking a problem or repetitive task and simplifying it into something that can run on auto-pilot.  Meal planning was a system […]

5 Thing You May Be Doing To Sabotage Your Organization

By |October 8th, 2019|Blog|0 Comments

Many of my clients tell me they have tried to get organized and just can’t do it. They are smart, capable people, so why haven’t they succeeded? Many times we thwart our own best efforts, but if we make small adjustments in our processes it can lead to huge strides in living an organized life. Below my close friend and fellow Professional Organizer Kirsten Fisher shares some of the top things her clients tend to do to sabotage themselves. See if you can relate…

1. Shop First. Buying cute containers may help motivate us into getting organized but it won’t create the right system. Taking your things and throwing them in a pretty bin is not organization. It won’t last once you start to use it. What should be your first step?

Sort. The first step is always sort. Determine what you have by category. Completely empty the space to put all […]

How to Opt-Out of Mail, E-Mail & Phone Calls

By |September 10th, 2019|Blog|1 Comment

One of the easiest ways to stay organized is to limit the amount of things coming into your life. The less stuff you have in the form of belongings and information, the less you have to organize. In my fifteen years of being a professional organizer, I have helped countless individuals sift through their piles of papers and overflowing email inboxes to find what seems to be an overwhelming amount of junk. In addition, so many people I know receive multiple telemarketer calls each day. All of these unwanted communications become distractions and noise in our already busy lives. In this blog post, I’ve created a checklist for you to follow in order to opt yourself out of unwanted mail, e-mail and phone calls. In addition, I’ve included a few other things you need to know to keep unwanted info from coming into your life. Hopefully, after accomplishing the tasks […]

9 Packing Tips for an Organized Summer Vacation

By |July 10th, 2019|Blog|0 Comments

It’s summertime! Summer often means fun-filled trips to the beach, road trips, summer camp, and family vacations. But with travel comes the need to prepare for traveling.  Packing can be especially stressful when you aren’t organized. Set yourself up for a successful summer vacation even before it starts. Save more of your energy for the trip itself by using these 9 super simple tips to create your packing process.

  1. Use a Packing Checklist

For as long as I can remember I have used a packing checklist to help me prepare for every trip I’ve been on.  This checklist continually gets updated as my needs and the needs of my family change. I usually print this checklist out about a week before I head out so I can slowly gather everything that is needed. You can download the packing checklist I use by clicking here or you could try using […]
